Telford & Wrekin council has submitted two major planning applications in a bid to become a key location for the Ministry of Defence’s UK logistics operation.
The first submission includes a site housing a new fulfilment centre of circa 675,000 sq ft, alongside a 200,000 sq ft warehouse, plus an office block totalling 30,000 sq ft.
The second planning application is for a site along the western boundary of the existing MoD Donnington site – next to the Telford International Railfreight Park – and includes 280,000 sq ft of warehouse and distribution space.
If the bid is successful, Telford could become a main centre for the MoD’s operation in the UK.
The council has been in talks with the MoD regarding the plans for two years. The applications will go before the planning committee in March.
The MoD will decide on the favoured location for its UK logistics operation during 2014. If Telford council gains planning consent and wins the bid from the MoD, work could start on site in 2015.
