Glasgow-based developer and investor Halladale is to submit an application for a 37,000 sq ft Asda store in Dalgety Bay, Fife.
Knight Frank, on behalf of the developer, has submitted reserved matters to Fife council, which will see a small-format store developed.
Outline consent for the scheme, on the edge of Donibristle Industrial Estate, was originally refused by Fife council as it was deemed it an out-of-town development. However, the application was upheld on appeal.
David Innes, head of planning at Knight Frank Scotland, said: “We identified that with over 300,000 sq ft of vacant industrial space available in Dalgety Bay and a requirement for a superstore that allowed residents to carry out a main food shop locally, there were good planning grounds to support the development.
“This was borne out by the reporter’s decision that supported the proposal even although it was deemed to be an “out of centre” site.
“The reporter also supported our evidence that the superstore development was in accordance with planning policy”.
Asda has two larger stores nearby at Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline.
David Lockhart, CEO of Halladale, added: “Dalgety Bay is a fast developing town with good commuter links to Edinburgh.
“This proposed development will double the amount of supermarket space in the town and will meet the aspirations of the people of Dalgety Bay for modern shopping facilities.”
