Stockport Council unveils innovation hub plans

Stockport Council has revealed its plans for an innovation hub in the town centre.

The Merseyway Innovation Centre, will span across 15,000 sq ft of the upper floors at the Merseyway Shopping Centre, which is currently vacant.

The council plans to transform the first floor of the former Next store and the adjacent former Metro Gym into a hub for start-up businesses and entrepreneurs. At full capacity, it will be able accommodate up to 50 businesses, offering flexible serviced offices and co-working space.

Colin MacAlister, cabinet member for economy and regeneration at Stockport Council, said: “This will strengthen our offer and support new and small businesses, providing everything they need for their business to grow and prosper.”

The scheme is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, government funds and Stockport Council. Work will include the construction and fit-out, as well as renovation work to the facade.
