Hayle Harbour Company has submitted an outline planning application to Penwith council for the 148,640 sq m (1.6m sq ft) redevelopment of the harbour district of Hayle in Cornwall. Jersey-based Rosshill Properties is providing the financial backing for the scheme.
Plans for the 117.4ha (290-acre) site include a variety of residential units, shops, offices, industrial, a hotel and leisure facilities. A new fishing harbour, additional mooring areas and the retention of space for commercial shipping, also form part of the proposals, which extend the town out to the harbour.
The developer claims that, following extensive consultation with the relevant local authorities, the scheme will provide a sustainable basis for development while respecting the site’s historic elements and the neighbouring SSSI.
The development – which has an estimated completion cost of £125m – is thought to be the largest ever proposed for the county.
