Plans submitted for 22-acre Chesterfield stadium scheme

Chesterfield Football Club has joined with Tesco and Wilson Bowden Developments to for a 22-acre stadium-led scheme.

The partners have submitted a planning application for a mixed-use development which will include a new football ground for the Derbyshire club.

Subject to approval from Chesterfield borough council, construction of the scheme on the former Demaglass manufacturing site is scheduled to start early 2009.

Completion of the Tesco store and the new stadium for Chesterfield Football Club is anticipated in winter 2009 with completion of the mixed-use element which includes offices to follow.

David Ward, planning director at Wilson Bowden Developments, said: “The partnership are delighted to be able to make a formal application for this important development in Chesterfield, we have been encouraged by the levels of positive response we received to the exhibition held at the Peter Webster Centre in February.

“Whilst there were some concerns surrounding matchday parking facilities we are confident that the amendments we have made to the plans in the past few weeks will overcome these concerns”.
