Plans submitted for Durham industrial estate extension

JCM Plants has lodged proposals to extend the industrial estate at Cowpen Lane in Billingham, Durham, by about 150,000 sq ft.

The plans include the redevelopment of a large warehouse and construction of 40 facilities on a nine-acre site, 36 of which will be intended for the use by smaller companies. The remaining developments are classed as mid-box.

The existing building will be reduced to create a smaller building that will be subdivided into multiple facilities for future adaptability.

The partial site clearance work will allow for 36 “starter” sheds to be brought forward, ranging between 1,000 sq ft and 1,600 sq ft, with an additional four larger facilities of between 7,500 sq ft and 9,900 sq ft in size.

Cowpen Lane industrial estate is situated close to the A19, River Tees and Teesport. Its tenants include Devereux, Tomlinson Hall, Caswells, DPD and KP Snacks.

Lichfields has been appointed as planning consultant on the scheme.
