An outline planning application has been submitted for the first 3,200 homes of one of the largest residential schemes in the South East, in Basingstoke, Hampshire.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hampshire County Council intend to build up to 8,000 homes on the 2,080-acre Manydown site, which the two jointly own.
Basingstoke and Deane cabinet member for property and development John Izett said: “This planning application marks a notable milestone on our journey to building one of the best-designed and thought-out new housing developments in the UK.
“The next important stage will be selection this summer of a private sector development partner. We remain on track to build the first new homes at Manydown in 2019.”
Plans for the site include commercial business and retail space alongside two primary schools and a secondary school. A 250-acre country park would also be created as part of the development.
