Plans to refresh Farringdon office block set for approval

Proposals to revamp 150 Aldersgate and 3-4 Bartholomew Place in Farringdon, EC1, have been recommend for approval.

The plans, from Virgin Islands-registered Arindel Properties, will refurbish and extend the property to create a building rising up to nine storeys and providing 184,418 sq ft of office space and terraces.

However, 126 objections have been received from local residents and an objection from the Barbican Association over the height – which will be increased by two storeys – bulk and massing of the building and loss of daylight, sunlight and privacy.

The City’s planners said the updating of this building would “provide a visually positive contribution to the character of this part of the City, making the building more outward-facing, introducing visual permeability and activation at ground floor”.

The planners added that the scheme had been designed to “sufficiently minimise” any impact on nearby occupiers privacy, overlooking, noise, daylight and sunlight.

Topland Group of Companies acquired the property in 2001 for £33m, according to Radius Data Exchange.
