Capital & Centric has unveiled plans to regenerate Weir Mill in Stockport into a £60m mixed-use scheme.
Under the plans for the site, the developer will build 254 new homes (87 of which will be built across the existing 18th century mill buildings, with the remaining 167 in two new buildings) and 24,000 sq ft of commercial space.
Plans also include retaining historical cast iron columns located on site to create an outdoor riverside venue for street markets, DJ sets and live music events.
Capital & Centric co-founder Tim Heatley said: “By creating super-energy-efficient and beautiful buildings, of a quality usually only seen in the city centre, we can raise the bar and others will follow.
“Weir Mill is the first of many huge investments we are making in towns throughout the Midlands and the North. The cities have got it coming so they’ll all need to raise their game.”
A second consultation for the plans closes in early December, after which a planning application will be submitted to Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.
Weir Mill is part of Stockport’s £1bn town centre regeneration plans, which will see 3,500 new homes and 1m sq ft of mixed-use space developed.
