Plans unveiled for office tower at Manchester’s First Street

Ask Real Estate and Vita Group have revealed their plans for the continued redevelopment of the remaining land at Manchester First Street.

The transformation of the area began in 2006. Most of the buildings proposed under the wider masterplan have now been built, including Number One First Street, HOME, Vita Student, Innside and Tony Wilson Place. Planning approvals have also been secured for Downing’s co-living scheme south of Hulme Street, as well as an office building at plot 9a, fronting Medlock Street.

The next phase to come forward at First Street is plot 10, which is located on River Street. The vision for the site is to deliver a mixed-use scheme of new workspace, leisure facilities (including Vita Group’s new House of Social brand, featuring ground-floor food hall) and purpose-built student accommodation on the upper floors.

The new building, which is expected to be up to 17 floors high, is set to secure NABERS 5.5-star certification.

John Hughes, managing director of Ask Real Estate, said: “Throughout our regeneration journey, we have worked collaboratively with First Street’s neighbours to shape a place that brings benefits to all.”

Max Bielby, chief operating officer of Vita Group, added: “Our new House of Social concept at plot 10 will take this a step further, building a real sense of community through a welcoming food hall which will be open to all, as well as student accommodation which focuses on high-quality shared spaces to encourage friendship and collaboration.”
