PODCAST: Tony Fernandes, chairman of Queens Park Rangers Football Club talks to Estates Gazette about how he will be “battle-hardened” when dealing with planning and property hurdles for the club’s proposed major regeneration scheme at Old Oak Common in west London.

The Premier League club, together with property partner Antony Spencer’s Stadium Capital Developments, has unveiled a masterplan comprising a 40-000-seat stadium, 24,000 homes, and commercial space for a hotel, shops and offices . A public consultation began last week.

The proposed stadium will replace the club’s Loftus Road ground in Shepherds Bush, W12. It will be part of a regeneration of the area, which is provisionally called New Queens Park.

Fernandes has welcomed working with property agent Anthony Green & Spencer, Stadium Capital Developments, and architect Sir Terry Farrell.

The 50-year old said: “It is a dream, it is fun, and it would be great if we can do something for the community here that creates jobs.”

He added that the planning will not “go without stress”, but that he is “battle-hardened” and ready to face obstacles.
