Police investigate developer’s Dorset tree felling

Police are investigating after a wooded wildlife haven was destroyed by developers without warning.

Villagers in Corfe Mullen, Dorset, were horrified when a team of workmen felled about 20 trees that were believed to be home to protected bats, owls and woodpeckers.

Rare orchids were also said to be growing on the plot of private land that had recently been acquired by a property developer.
