Poland’s new Law and Justice party government is threatening to halt the construction of big supermarkets and stop existing ones opening on Sunday.
The party, which has derided homosexuality and backed the death penalty, is prescribing a ‘moral revolution’ for a Poland sickened by political sleaze and high unemployment.
The move is intended to help small businesses.
Finance minister Teresa Lubinska has denounced the likes of Tesco as ‘the kind of non-productive investment not needed in Poland.’
