Portland House resi plans approved

Portland House SW1 CGI 570p

Land Securities last night got the go-ahead to convert Victoria’s tallest building into a 206-flat scheme.

Westminster city council approved proposals to redevelop 331ft office block Portland House, SW1, into a Sir David Chipperfield-designed residential tower.

Consent was also given for a new canopy to Cardinal Place.

The building, which was completed in 1969, is at the heart of Land Securities’ ongoing plans to transform Victoria into a luxury residential and office market.

As part of the planning permission, the REIT must make an affordable housing payment, as well as deliver 63 affordable homes at nearby Castle Lane.

Gerald Eve advised on planning.
