The campaign wheels for the Portland-to-Portland cycle ride are in motion.
The event, in which architects and developers ride 4,347 miles from Portland, Oregon, to Portland Place, London, to explore cities’ relationship with the bicycle, was launched on a big red bus.
It was a restored Routemaster to be precise, with Transport for London chief Sir Peter Hendy at the wheel.
But while Hendy steered the vehicle through the streets of London, it was host and NLA chairman Peter Murray, sporting a conductor’s outfit, who maintained order among the passengers, including the great and good of British property, some of whom also provided commentary.
The P2P event, which will take place from April to July, will raise money for Article 25, which provides development in places of poverty and disaster, the Architects Benevolent Fund and USA-based Architecture for Humanity.
