Post-Christmas returns set to hit record

Around $500 million in unwanted Christmas presents, or some 30 million items, will be returned, according to logistics consultancy LCP Consulting.

The main day for returns is the first Thursday after Christmas, and Nila Patel, business development manager at Norbert Dentressangle, warns that while ecommerce has seen impressive growth, the returns side of the process hasn’t developed to the same extent.

Ecommerce returns average 15% to 20%, but parcel delivery service CollectPlus is estimating that 31% of online Christmas purchases will be returned.
