Poundland opens in Leith’s Newkirkgate Shopping Centre

Poundland is to open a new shop in part of the former Woolworths store in Newkirkgate Shopping Centre in Leith.

It is taking 8,482 sq ft in the unit which has been vacant since the former bastion of the British high street went into administration.

The discount retailer, which is aiming to have a store on every high street in the UK, has taken a new 10 year lease, subject to a break option on the fifth anniversary at a rent of £70,000 per annum.

The new Poundland shop will open in late Autumn.

Isla Monteith of Cushman & Wakefield said: “Poundland is a good addition to the tenant mix at Newkirkgate which is the principal retail destination in Leith providing excellent convenience shopping from stores like Boots, Superdrug and Lidl.”

Cushman & Wakefield represented the landlord Baronsgate Estates; CB Richard Ellis acted for Poundland.
