Poundland has refused to sell 80 shops to address objections from the competition regulators over its takeover of 99p Stores.
The company has told the Competition and Markets Authority that it is not prepared to sell or shut any stores to soothe concerns that its planned takeover could reduce choice on the high street.
Poundland now faces a full inquiry, and has said it is considering whether to go ahead with ‘phase 2’ of its planned £55m takeover.
