Thousands of emergency pre-fabricated homes for key workers are to be built by the government on public land in the face of soaring house prices.
Lord Falconer, the housing minister, yesterday announced plans to build thousands of modular homes, made in factories and then erected on site, to offer cheap accommodation for public sector workers.
Falconer said: “I would like to see thousands built a year.”
The government will release public land for free so that the homes can be more cheaply built.
