Premier Inn makes a reservation in the City

Premier Inn is planning a 100,000 sq ft hotel in the City of London.

The budget hotel operator is preparing to submit an application to the City Corporation for a change of use at 1-2 Dorset Rise, EC4, which has long been used as an office building.

Premier Inn is in negotiations with landlord Greenhills, which put the property up for sale for around £35m late last year through Jones Lang LaSalle.

The hotel operator is proposing to open a 258-bedroom hotel to replace the office space, previously home to KPMG. Greenhills would lease the space to Premier Inn on a 20-year term.

Derek Griffin, head of acquisitions for Greater London at Premier Inn, said: “We are in detailed discussions with Greenhills and are looking to bring another Premier Inn to a top location in London.”

? Premier Inn’s parent company Whitbread last week bought self-serve coffee bar business Coffee Nation for £59.5m through its coffee shop chain Costa. It plans to launch a new brand, Costa Express, to target the self-serve coffee bar sector.
