Prescott dragged into battle at City Airport

John Prescott stepped into a row at London City Airport in thecapital’s Docklands.

The deputy prime minister’s intervention came after the LondonDocklands Development Corporation’s planning committee gave its backingto an application to double the number of flights at the airport.

Local residents have objected to increased noise. Other airportoperators in the region have objected on the grounds of increasedcompetition. Prescott has 20 days in which to approve the proposal orrefer it to a planning inquiry.
