Deputy prime minister John Prescott has granted planning permission for an IKEA store on a brownfield site at Edmonton, North London.
The 301,399 sq ft (28,000 sq m) store, which will create 500 jobs, will be built at Glover Drive, Upper Edmonton, next to a Tesco Retail Park.
IKEA today recommitted itself to a £1bn UK expansion drive.
It said it planned a further 20 stores and the creation of 10,000 jobs.
In June of this year, IKEA’s expansion plans suffered a double setback when it was forced to pull out of planning inquiries for stores in Nottingham and Southampton.
