The Communities Plan, the government’s long-awaited blueprint for development in England, will be published on Wednesday.
The Plan is expected to detail a massive increase in housebuilding in the South East, announced by deputy prime minister John Prescott last July.
Prescott said that four growth areas in the “greater South East” – Ashford, the Milton Keynes area, the Thames Gateway, and the M11 corridor by Stansted – would be the site of between 200,000 and half a million new homes by 2030.
The Plan, which has already been criticised as being “a return to Stalinist predict-and-provide policies” by some opposition MPs, is also expected to make a commitment to vital transport infrastructure being installed in these areas.
