Price tag for first-time buyer homes hits record high

The average price of a home for a first-time buyer has hit a record £224,963 this month, according to research from Rightmove.

Rightmove’s house price index has found that sales volumes among first-time buyers were 4% higher than levels seen in March 2019.

Despite the figures, the wider housing market recorded more modest growth. Overall, new sellers’ average asking prices have increased by 0.2% to £366,247 in April, below an average 1.2% rise usually seen at this point in the year.

At the top of the property ladder, sales for homes were behind by 3%.
