Primark makes a roaring start at Lion Walk shopping centre

Lion-Walk-ColchesterCBRE Global Investors has reported a 30% rise in average daily footfall at its Lion Walk shopping centre in Colchester, Essex, following the opening of Primark in February.

Average daily footfall at the centre is now 30,000, compared to 23,000 before Primark opened.

The clothes retailer agreed a deal for a 56,000 sq ft store at the centre on a 20-year lease. It joins other major brands at the site, including Topshop, River Island, New Look, M&S and Boots.

Joshua Nixon of Savills said: “Primark has been at the top of Colchester’s retailer wish-list for many years and its opening reaffirms Lion Walk as the shopping destination of choice in the town.”

Alix Mills of CBRE Global Investors added: “We are delighted to welcome more customers than ever to Lion Walk and we look forward to attracting new and exciting brands to the busiest retail parade in Colchester.”

CBRE Global Investors bought Lion Walk shopping centre at the beginning of last year for £76.5m – a 6% yield.

Savills is letting agent at the scheme.
