Primark to anchor CBRE IM’s Epsom shopping centre

Primark has agreed to take up 44,000 sq ft at a former House of Fraser store in CBRE IM’s Ashley Centre in Epsom.

The retailer will occupy two floors at the mall, which is undergoing a £7m refurbishment.

The store is expected to open in early 2025 and create around 100 jobs. It will be adjacent to the scheme’s central square near retailers such as JD.

The centre’s upgrades include a refreshed interior and a new external entrance. Works are due to be completed later this summer.

Louisa Butters, head of retail asset management UK at CBRE IM, said: “Primark’s signing is a significant moment for the Ashley Centre. The opening will mark another milestone in our repositioning project that underpins our long-term strategy for the revitalisation of the Ashley Centre, ensuring that it continues to serve the needs of the community in every way possible.”

Philippa Nibbs, director of sales UK, London and the South East at Primark, said the Epsom deal has been agreed as the retailer continues “to invest in the UK high street”.

Retailers opening stores at the mall last year include JD, Deichmann, and Gail’s Bakery, forming a key part of the centre’s leasing strategy to evolve its retail and F&B offer.

GCW and Lunson Mitchenall are the agents for the Ashley Centre.
