Primark has signed for an anchor store at Scottish Widows Investment Property Partnership Trust’s retail and leisure scheme The Moor, Sheffield.
The budget fashion retailer has agreed to take 45,000 sq ft over two levels, forming part of the project that is due to be built next to an existing Debenhams store.
Demolition of the current building is under way and the new development is expected to be completed during the summer of 2015. It is planned to include shops, restaurants and a cinema, and provide a walkway between The Moor and Charter Row.
Kerri Hunter, co-manager at SWIPPT, said: “We are committed to delivering a leisure offer that will add to the evening economy of the city centre and are delighted with the interest in this development. We are currently in discussions with both cinema and restaurant groups, quite a few of which have resulted from unsolicited enquiries.”
Andy Criss, founding partner, Jackson Criss, which is advising SWIPPT, said: “Securing Primark is already acting as a catalyst to ongoing discussions with other major fashion and leisure operators seeking large, well-configured retail and leisure space in a quality retail environment, as well as to a variety of quality local and regional independent retailers.
“Primark will join existing key retailers Debenhams and BHS, as well as new entrant TJ Hughes and the new markets opening later this year.”
