Housing Minister Mark Prisk has been asked to step down from his Department of Communities and Local Government role to make way for “a younger generation”.
The Hertford and Stortford MP took to Twitter to say today’s cabinet reshuffle was “disappointing”.
Prisk tweeted this afternoon: “Been asked to step aside from Housing for a younger generation. Disappointing but it’s been a great 11 years (as a) frontbencher.”
He has served as minister of state for housing and local government since 4 September 2012, when Grant Shapps was promoted to party chairman.
His tenure oversaw the fast-tracking of the contentious second phase of the Help to Buy scheme announced in this year’s budget.
Prisk was elected to parliament in 2001 at the third attempt, and previously worked as shadow minister for Cornwall.
