Prison bosses protest against holiday camp-to-prison conversion

The Prison Governors Association is expected today to say that plans to convert a disused Pontins holiday camp, near Morecambe into a temporary prison should be stopped because they are misguided. It believes such an environment will be insecure. It will raise its objections at its annual conference today.

Lanarkshire councillors rejected plans last night to house the prisoners in the former camp. They said it would hit the tourist industry.
