Private investors plan Wineworld centre near Globe Theatre, SE1

Wineworld, a group of private investors, has taken 10,684 sq m (115,000 sq ft) at the junction of Clink Street and Stoney Street, London SE1, for a wine museum and exhibition centre.

The investors are paying Railtrack £252,400 pa on a 60 year lease from Railtrack. The scheme won consent last week from Southwark Council and Wineworld hopes to open the new centre in November 1998.

The scheme comprises a museum and a 743 sq m (8,000 sq ft) tasting hall where 300 wines will be available for selection. Each of those wines will be available in a majestic Wine outlet within the development which will also include four restaurants and corporate hospitality space.

The scheme will be funded with a £7.1m open offer launched this week and a £8.9m equity and debt facility.
