Prologis’ £200m Cambridge Biomedical Campus expansion approved
Prologis has secured consent for the £200m development of two buildings on Discovery Drive at Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
The decision follows the planning officer’s recommendation last week after reserved matters application was lodged in April this year.
The 23-acre site next to Addenbrooke’s Hospital already had outline planning permission for up to 750,000 sq ft of science-related facilities.
The San-Francisco headquartered developer will now kick off the construction of two lab and office buildings, measuring 142,847 sq ft and 134,807 sq ft.
Both facilities, designed by Scott Brownrigg, are suitable to be single or multi-let. To the rear of the floorplates, the developer has proposed space for specialist servicing and storage for deliveries. This will be separate from the front-of-house entrance to maximise the quality of the public realm.
The new buildings will sit next to the speculatively delivered £65m 1000 Discovery Drive and Abcam’s £25m bespoke hub, providing a combined 200,000 sq ft of lab and office space.
The former has been partly prelet to Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which has signed a 15-year lease on 23,000 sq ft to be used for diagnostic pathology services. BioNTech will occupy the remainder of 1000 Discovery Drive.
Bidwells is advising Prologis on planning.
