Property is the better bet for funding retirement, according to Bank of England chief economist Andy Haldane.
As long as we continue not to build anything like as many houses as we need to, we will see house prices heading relentlessly northwards, Haldane said.
The comments have come in for criticism, with former pensions minister Ros Altmann describing them as irresponsible.
