Just 16 property auctions took place across the UK in January 2020, as low volumes in 2019 encouraged many to take advantage of the traditional seasonal lull and extend their Christmas holiday periods.
According to the latest figures from auctions data specialist Essential Information Group, 476 lots went under the hammer in January, a 4.4% increase on January 2019’s total of 456. The number of lots sold fell by 4.6% compared with the previous year, from 351 to 335, resulting in a decline in the success rate from 77% to 70.4%. The total amount raised fell by 7%, from £33.5m to £31.2m.
“Few conclusions can be drawn from such a small sample set,” said EIG founder David Sandeman. “February’s results will provide a more accurate account.”
