An auditor and his deputy have sued the Holy See for €9.3m in damages, claiming they were ousted after digging up too much dirt.
Libero Milone, a former head of Deloitte in Italy, was hired in 2015 with Ferruccio Panicco.
Milone said a key reason for his sacking was his attempt to investigate the Vatican’s €350m investment in flats on London’s Sloane Avenue, SW3.
The Vatican realised well over £100m in losses when the London property at the centre of the revelations was sold to Bain Capital for £186m a few months ago.
