More than 190 people who made their fortunes from property and land featured in this weekend’s Sunday Times Rich List.
The highest property billionaire in the list, compiled by Philip Beresford who also puts together the EG Rich List, was Grosvenor’s Duke of Westminster who has a fortune of £7.3bn – a £350m rise on 2011. He took 7th place in the list.
Just behind him with £7.1bn were David and Simon Reuben. Their wealth rose by more than £900m during the year, the result of profits from investments sold before the market crash.
Chinese property tycoon Joseph Lau, at position 13, saw his fortune climb by £203m to £4.1bn, while the Earl Cadogan and family took 19th place with wealth of £3.2bn.
Eddie and Sol Zakay, of Topland Group, are in joint 24th place with wealth of £2.4bn, the Barclay brothers are in joint 26th with £2.2bn and Baroness Howard de Walden and Family, Peel Holdings-owner John Whittaker, and London & Regional’s Ian and Richard Livingstone follow in 28th, 29th and 30th place respectively with fortunes of around £2bn each.
Other property billionaires include the Pears family with £1.7bn, Eddie and Malcolm Healey with £1.5bn, Viscount Portman and family with £1.3bn and River Island owner Bernard Lewis and family with £1.2bn.
