Property firms abandon Bell Pottinger

Bell Pottinger has been dropped by a host of property firms seeking to cut association with the tarnished PR firm.

NewRiver REIT is the latest to confirm it has terminated its contract with the firm, following announcements by Unite Group and Carillion.

Investec and HSBC have also ditched the company. Primary Health Properties and Queensgate Investments did not respond to requests to comment about whether they would continue to work with the firm.

Bell Pottinger has come under scrutiny over its business in South Africa, where it was accused of inciting racial hatred in a PR campaign for the Gupta family.

On Monday it was booted out of the Public Relations and Communications Association, the industry regulator.

This morning, the firm confirmed it has instructed BDO to explore options for the business moving forward, including a potential sale.

It said it would not comment on individual clients due to confidentiality.
