Property fraudster ordered to pay confiscation order

Convicted property fraudster Alexander Williams has been told to pay back £477,474 within six months.

Dressed in a black t-shirt at Southwark crown court, Williams was ordered to pay a confiscation order of £477,74.25.

The Serious Fraud Office said he was told he must pay within six months or serve a default sentence of three years’ imprisonment.

Confiscation proceedings for Williams’ business partner Achilleas Kallakis will be heard over the next fortnight.

The pair were found guilty on 17 January 2013 of obtaining £740m in loans from Allied Irish Bank between 2003 and 2007 to buy 16 properties, using deception and forged guarantees purportedly signed by Hong Kong-listed Sun Hung Kai Properties.

They were also found guilty of conspiracy to defraud Bank of Scotland.

In May last year Kallakis had his seven-year sentence increased to 11 years, and Williams saw his five-year term rise to eight years.

Southwark crown court will determine at the confiscation hearing how Kallakis benefited from criminal conduct, and the court must determine the amount.
