Property fund launched to support homeless women

Patron Capital and social impact investment company Resonance have joined forces to launch a fund to support women experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness.

The Women In Safe Homes fund is aiming to raise £100m to provide women who are homeless, ex-offenders or survivors of domestic abuse, with affordable and safe housing.

Domestic abuse is one of the leading causes of homelessness for women and children, and in England and Wales between 2017-2018, 1.3m women experienced domestic abuse.

Charity Women’s Aid2 reported that 60% of women being referred to specialist refuges are being turned away, mainly due to lack of space.

The fund aims to provide around 750 affordable homes across the UK and has formed its first partnership with Preston Road Women’s Centre in Hull.

Keith Breslauer, managing director of Patron Capital, sais: “Without safe and secure housing, women experiencing complex issues and adversity find it much harder to care for children, gain employment, access health care, or arrange benefits.

“The WISH Fund is aiming to tackle this significant issue, helping to improve lives across the UK.”
