Property industry rewarded in Queen’s Birthday Honours

Will McKee, former director general of the British Property Federation (BPF), and Judith Mayhew, chairman of the City of London policy and resources committee, were among a number of property-related figures awarded honours in the Queen’s Birthday Honours lists.

McKee was awarded a CBE for “services to the property industry”, while Mayhew was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire for services to the City of London.

McKee said: “Obviously I’m very pleased, but I also think that these awards are very good for the property industry as a whole.

“As an industry we don’t get recognition very often. It shows that people are taking note of the positive contribution the industry can make.”

He said friends and family had joined him at the weekend for a celebratory barbecue.

Jonathan Harris, former president of the RICS, also received a CBE, for services to the surveying profession.

Other awards went to chief planning inspector John Shepley, architect Zaha Hadid, and Sandra Unerman, legal director of planning and housing at the ODPM, who each received CBEs.

Lesley Webber, head of property litigation at Beachcroft Wansbroughs, received an OBE for services to the property industry, as did Bristol-based St John Hartnell, chief executive chairman of surveyor Hartnell Taylor Cook, for services to the local community.
