Booming numbers of estate agents have prompted worries a debt-fuelled housing boom is underpinning economic recovery.
The Office for National Statistics said the number employed in real estate activities climbed 9.9% in the quarter to June – outdoing any other sector. The number of real estate jobs grew by 50,000 to 562,000, which is the highest level since records began in 1978. The National Association of Estate Agents confirmed its membership had been climbing every month this year.
