Overseas investors and TMT newcomers have pushed some of property’s biggest names out of the fourth annual Estates Gazette Power List.
The 50-strong list of the most powerful figures in UK property saw new entries such as Google’s head of EMEA real estate and construction, Joe Borrett, and Mark Carney, the new governor of the Bank of England, debuting in the top 10.
And just under half of the top 10 were international entries, highlighting the increasing power of overseas players within UK property.
The rankings, which were based on nominations from 20 senior industry figures, saw the UK’s shoppers taking the top spot, recognising the importance of the general public to the future of the country’s ailing high streets.
New agents in the list include Guy Grainger of Jones Lang LaSalle, CBRE’s Ciaran Bird, and Alistair Elliot from Knight Frank, who came in jointly at number 13.
Regulars including Heron International’s Gerald Ronson, Sellar Properties’ Irvine Sellar and Stephen Hester from the Royal Bank of Scotland all missed out on a place this year.
