The property developer Nick Candy has taken out an £80m mortgage on his penthouse at the One Hyde Park development in central London.
His loan is believed to be one of the largest ever advanced on a British property. Land Registry figures show that the flat, which has heated marble floors, a pedicure room, and a master bedroom with two walk-in wardrobes larger than some new-build flats, is valued at £160m, making it the UK’s most expensive apartment.
Candy, 45, assisted when his brother Christian, 44, developed the luxury block in Knightsbridge. Yesterday it was reported that a “mystery buyer” had paid £160m for the penthouse. However, The Times can reveal that Mr Candy was actually refinancing his own property with an £80m loan from Credit Suisse.
