Props maker signs up for £770m Morden Wharf

Regeneration specialist U+I has signed a new lease with London-based MDM Props at Morden Wharf on Greenwich Peninsula, SE10.

The specialist art, model and prop maker will occupy a 30,000 sq ft space in a refurbished warehouse next to the River Thames as part of the wider regeneration of the industrial site into a new mixed-use neighbourhood.

The deal follows confirmation that craft beer company Brew By Numbers will be opening a new taproom and brewery at Morden Wharf.

Plans for the £770m OMA-designed scheme, which proposes some 1,500 homes alongside 200,000 sq ft of commercial space, were submitted last June and are expected to go to committee in the next few months.

U+I chief executive Richard Upton said: “MDM Props is a hidden gem; a business with expertise that the arts could simply not function without. It’s crucial that we keep this area of Greenwich Peninsula as a creative hub whilst kickstarting the regeneration of an industrial site that is positively bristling with opportunity – putting Morden Wharf firmly on the map.”

MDM’s Hal Fraser added: “After Covid-19 ran roughshod right across the creative sector, we were fortunate that two grants from the £1.57bn Culture Recovery Fund and rent relief from U+I enabled MDM to keep trading. Now this lease ensures that we will be in place to support artists and creators as we emerge from the pandemic and for many years to come.”
