Headline:Protestors seek contact secrets of private toll road
Protestors are making a legal challenge in the High Court to theBirmingham Northern Relief Road. The road is Britain’s first privatelyfinanced toll road. It is planned to run through miles of green beltland and two sites of special scientific interest.
The protestors want to see details of the Department of Transportagreement with the contractors Midland Expressway. They are hoping tochallenge compulsory purchase orders.
The Department of Transport says the agreement with the road’sbuilders was “commercially confidential”. The £370m scheme is partof an integrated transport system for the West Midlands.
