PRS promotion tour hits the road

Housebuilding-generic-250px-REXA build-to-rent roadshow will kick off next week to inform councils around the UK of how the sector can be brought forward.

Undertaken jointly by the British Property Federation and the Department for Communities and Local Government, the roadshow aims to build on the momentum already created in London by councils and the Greater London Authority.

While a number of new planning and policy ideas have been worked up in London’s rental developments – such as covenants and the pepper-potting of affordable housing – these have yet to gain much traction outside of the capital.

“We have seen the build-to-rent sector really emerge over the past few years, with support and encouragement from central government and a growing weight of investment looking to enter the sector,” said Ian Fletcher, director of policy at the BPF.

“While some local authorities are excellent and appreciate the advantages of the sector – how it can add to housing supply, improve rental standards, and deliver new homes quickly – others are not so well versed in its merits.”

Fletcher will join DCLG PRS champion Mark Davis in giving the policy perspective at each of the workshops, while hosts JLL will explain each of the local markets.

The roadshow will kick off in Birmingham on 19 January, before going to Bristol (22), Leeds (27), and Manchester (29).
