Pushing the boundaries

Last month’s London Marathon brought out the determination in many property types to complete a personal goal. But ours is an industry that challenges itself all year round, whether it is climbing the highest mountain or swimming the deepest ocean.

When you are halfway up that mountain, or struggling through mile 12 of a 26.2-mile marathon, what goes through most (normal!) people’s heads is likely to be “Why am I doing this to myself?”

It is a good question. But the benefits of challenging goals are there. According to ehow.com, there is primarily the motivation in doing something different. “When you set challenging goals it brings out the passion, excitement and enthusiasm from within and you stand a better chance of reaching the highest levels possible,” states the site.

Then there is personal development coupled with a sense of personal achievement.

ehow.com adds: “Challenging goals push you beyond the thresholds of mediocrity.

“A challenging goal helps you to develop your talents and ability and you become a new person in the process. This is a form of personal development.”

And, of course, for those doing events for charity, there is the satisfaction that in the midst of your pain, you are actually helping others.
