Qatari Diar submits final Chelsea Barracks plans

Qatari Diar has submitted plans for the final phase of the Chelsea Barracks development, SW1.

It has submitted Phase 6B to Westminster Council, including 126 extra care and affordable homes, a sports centre, four retail units and an NHS medical centre.

Of the 126 extra homes, 29 will be intermediate rent, 42 for social rent and 55 for senior living.

A spokesperson for Chelsea Barracks said: “We identified that there was an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the community, and have over-delivered on the number of homes, size requirement of the gym and the facilities and are looking to create a comprehensive retail offering to cater for the community.”

Qatari Diar, the real estate arm of Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, acquired the Chelsea Barracks site from the Ministry of Defence in 2008 for £959m in partnership with the Candy brothers CPC Group.

The 2011 masterplan proposed 448 homes on the 12.5-acre site.
