QPR hits back in land dispute

Queens Park Rangers FC has hit back at threats blocking a proposed new stadium at Old Oak Common, by claiming 80% of local residents are in favour of the plans.

The Premier League club was responding to a statement by Cargiant which owns a 30-acre plot of land where QPR wants to develop a 40,000-seat stadium and 24,000 homes .

Cargiant said it is not in negotiations with QPR and will not enter into any future talks with the club.

It added that it was planning its own regeneration scheme for the area, and rejected the suggestion that the club may obtain a Compulsory Purchase Order for its land to pave the way for redevelopment.

A QPR spokesman said: “The future regeneration of Old Oak requires everyone to work together for the common good – the boroughs, the mayor, landowners and the local community.”

“Our consultation has so far attracted the views of more than 1,000 local residents with over 80% in support of our stadium-led regeneration. The future of Old Oak lies in the regeneration of the entire area and not the unco-ordinated and piecemeal development of individual land holdings.”
