Quarters promotes Barros to CEO

Medici Living’s co-living provider Quarters has promoted former WeWork SVP Rui Barros to chief executive.

Barros joined the business in December as chief operating officer.

Founder and former chief executive Gunther Schmidt has moved into an advisory role.

Quarters claims to be the largest co-living operator in North America and Europe, with 5,000 beds contracted in 19 cities.

The co-living operator is to launch in the UK this year. It is under offer on two schemes in London and Manchester and has a goal to secure 1,500 beds in London alone this year.

It has recently completed a series B fundraising led by shareholder W5 Group.

Quarters has raised €1.1bn (£940m) in investment for its European expansion and a further $300m for the US. The provider has 14 locations in Europe and the US. It will add new developments in The Hague, Leipzig, Philadelphia and Austin in the next two years.
