Queensberry signs Kids Cavern to Metquarter

Queensberry has agreed its first significant retail signing for the Metquarter in Liverpool since acquiring the property in January 2016.

Children’s retailer Kids Cavern will take a new 15,000 sq ft unit, which is being billed as a department store designed for children.

The shop will host a range of designer brands including Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Kenzo Kids, Roberto Cavalli Junior, Armani Junior, Hugo Boss, Canada Goose, and Moncler, and will include a soda bar and iPad stations.

The store is scheduled to open in September and the shop will occupy one level, enabling easy access for customers with prams and strollers.

Unique experience

Stuart Harris, commercial director and co-founder of Queensberry, said: “Kids Cavern is exactly the kind of retailer we want for Metquarter. It will complement our other tenants and bring a host of quality brands in an environment that will provide a unique customer experience.

“This is another important step in moving towards our vision of revitalising and repositioning Metquarter as a premium shopping and leisure experience in the heart of Liverpool. We’re in negotiation with several other retail and restaurant brands that we’re hoping to reveal over the next few months.”

Kids Cavern director Tracey Shelvey said: “Our brand is dedicated in delivering a broad range of high-quality brands which we are confident will complement Metquarter perfectly.

Big impact

Jennina O’Neill, Metquarter centre manager, said: “The regional economy is valued at more than £149bn and includes 266,000 businesses. Growth in the city centre means Metquarter will benefit from these figures. Kids Cavern will broaden Metquarter’s offering and I’m confident it will make a big impact in the city.”

The latest signing forms a central part of the centre’s redevelopment strategy that resulted in boutique cinema operator, Everyman Cinemas, being announced as leisure anchor last year.

Queensberry received planning permission for the proposed changes last year and contractor Simons Group started work in January this year.

The vision involves bringing a collection of high-quality restaurant brands to the Victoria Street end of Metquarter with luxury retail concentrated on the lower level and the front of the centre.

Kids Cavern joins already-signed brands MAC, Hugo Boss, Jo Malone, Kurt Geiger, LK Bennett and others.
